Diwali, the festival of lights, is one of the most cherished celebrations in the Hindu tradition. Symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and the start of the Hindu New Year, it brings together communities in a spirit of joy, unity, and festivity. This year, the South Asian Student Association (SASA) at NYIT organized a spectacular Diwali Formal, offering a night of music, dance, delicious food, and vibrant decorations.

Guests were welcomed to an evening of traditional Indian music and the mesmerizing dance form of Garba, paired with the beats of DJ Krish, who captivated the crowd with popular tracks and even took song requests. From the very start, the dance floor was packed with students and their guests showing off their best moves, fully immersed in the high-energy atmosphere.

Attendees dressed up in their finest desi attire, transforming the venue into a sea of vibrant colors. Despite the chilly weather outside, the warmth and energy inside were unbeatable, as the music and dancing created a very energetic vibe. The night also showcased dance performances by various groups, including an outstanding performance by the SASA team that brought cheers and applause from the crowd.

The delicious food was another highlight of the evening. The menu featured a variety of traditional Indian dishes, including Chicken Biryani, Butter Chicken, Paneer Makhani, Garlic Naan, and Gulab Jamun – ensuring something for everyone. Guests eagerly indulged in the flavorful spread, especially after hours of nonstop dancing.

The lighting and decorations added a magical touch, setting the perfect backdrop for pictures that captured the joyous memories of the night. Students left with smiles, laughter, and stories to share – already anticipating next year’s event.
